Your chance to ask KP the questions
July 16th, 2008 by Sam Collins in England, Miscellaneous and tagged kevin pietersen, the wisden cricketer
Ok. We need your help.
For the September issue of the The Wisden Cricketer we have a big interview lined up with everybody’s favourite switch-hitter Kevin Pietersen.
It’s another huge month in the life of KP, what with the Test series and then the prospect of captaining England’s one-day side against the country of his birth, so it should make for a cracking read.
So far so good, but KP is a bit bored of us, and we can’t for the life of us think of what to ask him that we haven’t asked him already.
And that’s where you come in.
Email us at twc@thewisdencricketer.com, or post below, any questions that you would like us to ask big Kev on your behalf.
Nothing rude mind, but don’t be afraid to go a little left-field, and those that ask the best questions will get their names in the magazine.
We’re expecting big things from you, so get posing, the interview is next Wednesday (23 July), and don’t forget to leave your name and where you come from (e.g. Glenn Roeder, Norwich).
The September edition of The Wisden Cricketer will be in the shops on August 15

Did he sledge the Saffers in Afrikaans?
How does he square his full-time centrally contracted role for England with his considerable portfolio of external commitments (to sponsors etc)?
Whilst it was wonderful to hear the Lord’s crowd cheer him to the hilt, does he understand why so many others seem to dislike him? (I don’t).
Where does he consider he stands in the roll call of great England batsmen? (He is the best I have ever seen – so that’s 30-odd years).
Where does he see himself at 35?

London
What areas of your batting have you worked on the most in the last couple of years since playing for England? Any particular shots(other than that reverse-lefty-thingy)?
I know you did a tour round schools after which you stated your worries about the future of schools cricket. Any plans for a Jamie-Oliver-style program to develop the cricket base of players in the UK? If not why not?

Come on KP, WHY do you and Graeme Smith hate each other SO much. Yes I know, you turned your back on the Boks blah blah and he’s really patriotic blah blah, but I think there’s more to it than that.

I’ve not heard too many references to KP and other cricketers being exhausted from international commitments recently. Is it pure coincidence that this matches up with the emergence of the IPL and the Stanford matches? Suddenly found that extra spring in his step?

I’m a big fan of Mark Ramprakash and KP, could you please ask KP whether he thinks Ramps deserves a place in the England team one more time and if he did make it what advice would he give to Ramps to help him keep his cool this time round?

Why haven’t you adopted a comedy English accent?
You might want to think about studying the following trailblazers: Dick Van Dyke in Mary Poppins, the guy who played Daphne’s brother in Frasier and Madonna.

The English media, connoisseurs of tall poppy syndrome, have you pegged as being a selfish player who puts his interests before those of his team. How fair is this assessment?
Alternatively maybe you could ask him if he could get me a date with Graeme Smith.

Did you know the guy who played Daphne’s brother in Frasier was Australia, thoughts, comments?

Would you make a good test captain, especially with the Aussies coming next year. Would you like that job?

Who do you think you are?
And don’t say, “I’m KP or I’m Kevin Pietersen”.
Do you think you’re Viv Richards?

Thanks for all of your questions … i’ll be asking them all tomorrow (apart from ‘how big is your bat’.)
July 22nd, 2008 at 6:29 pm
I will, of course, ask how much his bat weighs though. Just not how big it is.
July 23rd, 2008 at 7:49 am
I dare you to say how big is your bat, and then wink.
July 23rd, 2008 at 9:12 am
But then he might show me. I don’t want that to happen.
