It used to be the preserve of football managers. Now squad rotation is becoming cricket’s thing. It’s becoming England’s thing. Andy Flower likes a fiddle.
He’s spot on. In a general sense, because schedules are putting a strain on player’s durability; in a specific sense, because the opposition are of a lower standard.

Extracting anything of significance from England’s two Tests against Bangladesh is like trying to tie down Tamim Iqbal. Tim Bresnan is the exception.
Bresnan’s emergence as an England player has less than inspired the media. Roli-poli sort of fella who bowls medium-fast; he’ll play a Test, a few one-dayers, and then disappear like a Wharf, a Kirtley or a Mustard. But, as Mike Atherton recently noted, Bresnan is one of those cricketers who it is easy to underestimate.

How to measure Ottis Gibson’s two and a bit years as England’s bowling coach? There’s no easy answer. There rarely is with coaches. Who knows if a quiet word on the morning of a Test made all the difference, or if a tweak of a bowling action was the secret to success?
Moreover, how England’s fast bowlers have performed during Gibson’s 31 Tests with the team is subject to a myriad of factors. What stage have they been at in their careers? Has injury interfered? Who have they played against, and on what sort of pitches?
But measure Gibson’s contribution we must. And the performance of his bowlers is the only way to come to a speculative judgment.
