Most clubs would be happy to win one league competition in the year they celebrate their 150th anniversary. But Didsbury, in south Manchester, who were founded in 1858, got greedy: their 1st, 2nd and 3rd XIs each won their respective divisions in the Cheshire County League, with the 1st XI denied a memorable double only when they lost in the final of the Cheshire County Cup by one wicket. Didsbury’s success merely built on the good work of 2007, when their 2nd, 3rd and 4th XIs walked off with league titles, while this year’s triumphs helped claim the league’s Aggregate Trophy, awarded to the side whose 1st and 2nd XIs win the most points combined. Didsbury, who this year have been raising money for the Rainbow Trust local children’s hospice charity, boast 59 senior playing members and 60 juniors . They were awarded ECB Clubmark accreditation through the Lancashire Cricket Board in September.
